Why is it so hard to give up control? It’s almost like we like to take on extra burdens. We pray to an almighty God yet we continue to act as if we are the lord over our lives. The Holy spirit councils us, yet we go behind and make decisions that counter that good counsel. Sometimes we find different solutions simply because we have a hardened heart and don’t want to obey. Other times, we find our own solutions because of fear. Instead of hearing and obeying God’s whispers, we twist and turn and lose peace and rest. But we have to eventually learn to give up control.
I guess we really don’t want it easy. The word of God tells us that if He is for us then no one can be against us, that He only has plans to prosper us and not to harm us. If we know God’s truths, why do we still allow Satan to control our minds and cause restlessness? The Lord makes our path clear and narrow and does not create restlessness and confusion. Let’s take the Lord up on His offer of peace, knowing that as we are resting there is an army fighting for us.
Since we know the truths of God, let’s stop breaking our backs over things He has already set for us, instead lets give up control. The Lord has given you clarity over a situation, yet you keep questioning him. Maybe the Lord gave you the perfect solution to a project, yet you go about searching for a plan B, C, and D. Understand this; God’s plan is plan A and it is the only one that we need. Stop wasting time on alternative plans when they will never come close to God’s perfect plan.
Ask yourself if you truly believe that God’s plan will work or do you still have apprehension? I pray that if you are apprehensive that “ the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).
The Lord has foreseen all obstacles and has created a plan that will be able to overcome them. When you choose plan B, you are are expecting God’s perfect plan A to not fail, you are not trusting God. Trust in the Lord and rest in Him. God has placed dreams and passions in your heart that he wants you to focus on, so stop wasting your time twisting and turning on the things He has already taken care of, give up control!
What is causing you to have restless nights? Maybe God told you to pursue a career, but instead of resting in Him you responded with “ I can’t pay the bills with that, maybe I should add this side job” etc… stop helping God, He doesn’t need it. Do you not think the Lord of lords knows of your financial needs and desires? It says in his word that “ You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion” (2 Corinthians 9:11).
Maybe God has spoken to you about a husband, the word tells us to ask and you shall receive, so you have asked and you shall receive if it aligns with God’s perfect plan. Why do you keep asking the Lord the same question? He does not withhold anything good from us. If a husband would be good for you then rest in knowing that at God’s appointed time, it will be provided. You have no reason to fear when the Lord has already promised to take care of you.
Partner With Him
There is nothing better than to partner with God. It says in the word to “ commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (proverbs 16:3). Instead of losing sleep, seek the Lord and he will make your path clear and narrow. Do your part and whatever you are incapable off, leave it to Jesus. Leave your burdens at the altar because God does not want you to walk around with them. The Lord wants us to walk lightly and freely; for his “ yoke is easy and [his] burden is light” (Matthew 11:30)
Often times we work harder than we need too and lose sleep because we think that our fruit is a direct result of our good works, but that is a lie from the enemy! “ For by grace, you have been sowed through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). We can all think of a time when we worked hard and got nothing in return or when we didn’t work a lot but still got miraculous returns. Good gifts come from above, so you are cheating yourself when you don’t partner with the almighty God.
Whatever you are losing sleep over, know that God seeks to give you rest. Once you have done your part, give the rest to Jesus and allow Him to do the hard labor for you. When God whispers in your ears regarding an issue, trust His solution and I don’t make extra ones for yourself. Don’t carry any burdens; the Lord asks, “ come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Rest in knowing that there are armies fighting for you and that no one will harm those that are zealous for what is good (1 peter 3:8). Rest.
